DIY Circle Skirt

DIY Circle Skirt

I've seen circle skirts/ skater skirts all over the place. I've also seen the prices attached to them, EEEEK! I just can't fathom paying 25(+) dollars on piece of material. So for today's tutorial we're going to making our own skirts, that are affordable, cute and so EASY!

Step 1.) Start with folding fabric in half, then into fourths.

Step 2.) From the folded corner, mark your measurements (measure your waist and then divide by 6.28.... so if you have a 39 inch waist, divide by 6.28. 6.21 will be where your mark your first arc).

Step 3.) Now from the first arc, measure how long you want your skirt to be plus and extra inch for seam allowance, mark it and cut both arcs (I used 15 inches for length and seam allowance).

Step 4.) Cut slit in pattern, will be used for later alterations. Flip skirt inside out, mark hem and iron down. From here you could sew hem, however, if sewing isn't in the books, I used No Sew fabric glue.

Step 5.) To make the waistband take waist measurement, 39 inches, by 6 inches. Once done, fold in half and iron. (This is where you can add inches if skirt is too short. Just make waistband more than 6 inches!)

Step 6.) Attach waistband to skirt by matching one waistband edge to inside of skirt.  Fold waistband on crease and attach other side of waistband material. The second picture shows finished product. (If this is difficult, just make sure no edges are showing on either the skirt or waistband.. this means matching sides so no edges are seen!). Connect skirt at slit.

 Finished Product!

This is what the waistband should look like! Sorry for the dirty mirror!

How to Revive Second Day Curls

How to Revive Second Day Curls

Start by lightly combing through the curls from yesterday's do. Doing this helps with the rats and hairspray coated hair, both of which make it hard to curl hair a second time. DON'T BRUSH! Brushing your hair makes you lose texture, which is essential for second day curls!

Next step is to begin curling hair. Instead of sectioning off hair like usual for first day curls, we'll only be curling the top section and any pieces that need extra assistance. Since we already have curls from the previous day, we're just reviving the sections that need help!

The last part of this tutorial deals with teasing. I start with the back of my head or the crown. I work my way down to the nape of my neck. I finish with the sides.

TEASING HELP: If you're not familiar with teasing or have a hard time with doing so, it's super easy and no worries, NO NESTS! Start by holding hair in one inch sections in one hand, with the other hand take your comb and make the letter "C", continue to do this until your hair is to your liking. For side pieces, since I have short hair I use my fingers. Hold the section of hair with your index finger and thumb, using the other hand pull pieces toward scalp. If you having long hair on the sides continue the "C" motion all over head!

Steal Their Style: Hilary Duff

Steal their Style: Hilary Duff

Hilary Duff was definitely a favorite growing up. Playing Lizzie McGuire as well as Sam in Cinderella Story, Duff was the perfect role model for any girl. Although we haven't seen any big projects from Hillary Duff (she did release a music video not too long ago), she is still blowing up the media, this time for her immaculate style. Her laid back and edginess is great for recreating any outfits especially on a budget!

No Sew Throw Pillows!

 No Sew Throw Pillows!

Now that spring time is here (FINALLY!) it's time to spruce up the bedroom. I usually keep my room pretty monotone during the winter time so when spring hits, I'm ready for some color! This tutorial is great because there's no sewing AND can be removed at any time.

My Winter throw pillows.

Envelope Pillow

Begin by laying your material inside out, placing the pillow in the middle. Fold the material over the pillow like shown below... making an envelope. Using fabric glue (found at Micheal's or Dollar Tree), connect the the outsides together. Once dry, pull the pillow out of middle section, inside out and place pillow back into case.
TIP: If you have trouble with the gluing, turn the material inside out so that the pattern is showing and fold in the edges (picture on the bottom shows this).

 Bow Pillow

Start by laying the pillow in center of material. Fold material over pillow like shown below. Gather each section found on the left and right side and tie them into a knot. Any tails left, tuck them under bow.

Easy Beach Waves Hair Tutorial

Easy Beach Wave Hair Tutorial

Alright ladies, summer is just around the corner and I don't know about you but I need a fast and easy go to for my hair. And guess what? This tutorial is perfect for all hair types, especially us girls with straight hair! If you're looking for those effortless beach waves this is for you!

Step 1: Brush hair, making sure there are no tangles! Apply a heat protection spray (I use Got2Be Crazy Sleek flat iron and blow dry lotion) to keep from damaging your hair.

Step 2: Section off hair. Take one inch section and braid hair. (TIP: if you want looser waves, take larger section of hair; if you want tighter waves, smaller sections will create this look).

Step 3.  Run straightener over braids, one to two times. Let cool. Once entire head is done and cooled, unravel braids and BAM! Beach Waves at your service!

Get to Know Me!

Get to Know ME!

I thought it was a good time to introduce myself a bit more, let those reading my posts get to know me better. I randomly picked these questions and hope they help you to understand my weirdness! Also, Happy St. Patrick's Day (check out my last post for outfit ideas so you don't get pinched!)

Favorite book: It's difficult to pick just one book but "Three Cups of Tea" is overwhelmingly my favorite book at this point in my life. If you're looking for a good read, I would definitely recommend this book!

Things I'm really bad at: There's a lot! Just to name a few: applying eyeliner, painting my nails on my left hand, making my bed on a regular basis

Animal: I recently took a quiz on Buzzfeed, it dealt with spirit animals.. I got a sloth. Although I'm sure sloths are great, I'm more of a dog kind of person.

Music I'm obsessed with: 90's alternative

Most embarrassing moment: Narrowing this down, there's one that replays in my head quite often. It happened on a date a couple of years ago, we went to get ice cream and while talking I dropped some on my shirt, chest area, and I thought it'd be a good idea to take care it right at the table... Talk about awkward!

Age I get mistaken for: It usually depends but between the ages of 16 and 18 seems to be the target most people would say I look.

Celebrity Crush: Matthew Gray Gubler, Josh Hutcherson, Jude Law, Mark Ruffalo, Gerard Butler

Holiday: Definitely Christmas but Halloween follows closely behind.

My go to store: Rue 21 is my favorite store; they always have good deals!

Major in college: Family Studies and Human Services

Fashion Staple: Converse, they go with everything.

Hobbies: Anything outside! I really enjoy hiking, going to the lake, and exercising.

Favorite state: Tennessee, especially in the South Eastern part of the state; the mountains are beautiful!
Gatlinburg, Tennessee during the fall time!

Season: Fall is spectacular! I love the colors, the clothes and FOOD!

Sports: College basketball triumphs all other sports. I currently have 5 brackets filled out for the NCAA tournament and will probably fill out more. Rock Chalk!

St. Patrick's Day @ Work

 St. Patrick's Day @ Work

Being that St. Patrick's Day is on Tuesday,  having something work appropriate and green to wear is necessary. Here are a few ways I included green into my wardrobe:

For this first outfit I decided green skinny jeans were a good go to. Pairing them with a black and white polka dot shirt and a sandals keeps the look simple and comfortable.
TIPS:
-if the sheer top is too much, throw on a black cardigan
-sandals are also iffy, so if they don't match your work environment, black flats would work as well!

A dress is another good way to incorporate green into your outfit. Throw on a pair of wedges and your look is complete!
TIPS:
- weather wise, if wedges are out of the question wearing nude heels would be another great option.

This last outfit is the most casual of them all. Being that it is still a bit chilly, having a scarf (this one has green on it too!) and jean jacket on hand is essential. Throw on a pair of jeans and Birks and you're set!

No Makeup Makeup Look

 No Makeup, Makeup Look

Wearing makeup is not fun at all. If you agree with this statement, or get comments like, "are you feeling okay, you look sick" from not wearing makeup, this tutorial is for you. Basically, this is how I do my makeup on days I don't feel like getting backlash from all the haters of natural beauty out there!
This is without any product on my face or my "sick" look.
To begin the process, I start with the bags under my eyes. Making upside down triangles with my foundation, this creates more coverage and less streaks. I then go over any redness and acne I have to make a more even look. I use my hands to apply the foundation, but using a beauty blender or brush would work too.

The next step is to apply powder and blush (for blush I used a light pink color to maintain that no makeup look). After this step I do my eyeshadow. This step is optional, however, if you do decide to go ahead with it, make sure the colors are in the tan and light browns; this makes for a more natural look.

Applying eyeliner and mascara are next on the agenda. To keep this looking as if you weren't wearing any makeup, only apply eyeliner to your top tight line (this is where your eyelashes grow). Doing this will make your lashes look fuller. Apply a few coats of mascara, making sure that there are no clumps, YUCK, and then add a light colored lip balm and you're done!

All Finished! And hopefully no longer "sick" looking!
